CT Scan

Patient Information
Our Phillips and Hitachi CT scanners produce high quality images that will result in a more accurate diagnosis. CT produces high resolution 3D imaging of the internal organs using x-rays. Contrast is used to highlight certain organs, vessels and tumors. This helps your doctor determine the proper medicine, procedure or surgery to help your condition, or can reassure you by showing that no serious problem is present. The CT scanner is a shaped like a donut and doesn’t not cause claustrophobia like an MRI scan. One the technologist places you in the scanner, most scans will only take a few seconds to minutes to complete.
Preparing for your exams: Some CT scans require IV contrast. If you have an allergy to contrast please let the technologist know. Contrast may be given orally, IV or both depending on the test being performed.
Because x-rays are used you must tell us if you are pregnant or think you are pregnant.
Abdomen and/or pelvis CTs: Please do not eat any food or drink any liquids for at least four hours prior to your exam.
Head or brain, neck and chest CTs: Please do not eat any food or drink any liquids for at least four hours prior to your exam. Clear liquids (less than eight ounces) are allowed if prescription medications need to be taken.
Your results:Your CT will be interpreted by one of our radiologists and the results will be sent to your doctor, usually by the end of the day.
